An investigation into the brutal killing of Dipu Chandra Das, a 25-year-old Hindu garment worker in Bangladesh, has revealed that no direct evidence exists to support allegations of blasphemy that led to his lynching. Dipu Chandra Das was employed at a local garment factory in Bhaluka. On Friday night, rumors circulated among factory workers that he had made derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad. Despite the absence of proof, tensions escalated rapidly, turning into deadly mob violence.
Rapid Action Battalion Finds No Blasphemous Content
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) stated that investigators found no Facebook posts, messages, or statements from Das that could be considered offensive to religious sentiments. Md Samsuzzaman, a Company Commander of RAB, told The Daily Star that colleagues and local residents were unable to identify any instance where Das had insulted religion.
He emphasized that no eyewitness has claimed to personally hear or see Das making any blasphemous remark.
Events Leading to the Lynching Outside the Factory
According to Prothom Alo, agitated factory workers demanded Das be dismissed after the rumor spread. Alamgir Hossain, the factory’s floor in charge, said management attempted to defuse the situation by relieving Das of his duties.
However, the crowd outside the factory grew increasingly violent. In an attempt to protect the factory premises, Das was pushed outside, where the mob attacked him using sticks and locally made weapons, beating him to death.
Body Hung and Burned on Dhaka–Mymensingh Highway
After killing Das, the mob carried his body to the median of the Dhaka–Mymensingh highway, where it was hung from a tree and set on fire. Disturbing videos of the act were recorded and circulated on social media, triggering widespread outrage.

Police have confirmed that ten people have been arrested in connection with the lynching. Authorities say further arrests may follow as the investigation progresses.
