Danny was a proud union laborer with Local 177, where he devoted his entire career to his trade. Following in the footsteps of his father, Ronald Eugene Long, Danny worked alongside his brothers and son, embodying values of dedication, teamwork, and resilience. His commitment to his union family earned him respect, admiration, and lasting friendships throughout the years.
A Passion for the Outdoors and Sports
Outside of work, Danny found his greatest joy in the outdoors. He loved hunting at dawn, fishing in quiet waters, and riding trails beneath open skies. He also had a lifelong passion for motorsports, especially NASCAR and drag racing, where his enthusiasm for his favorite drivers was infectious. A true sports fan, Danny also held a special place in his heart for the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Indiana Fever.
A Devoted Family Man
More than anything else, Danny’s true pride and joy came from his family. He was the loving husband of 41 years to Melody Long, a devoted father to Danny Lee Long Jr., and a cherished son to Dixie Long. Danny was also a caring brother to Steve and Scott Long, and a proud grandfather to his beloved granddaughters Isabella, Natalie, McKenzi, Laila, Paisley, and Oakley, who brought endless happiness to his life.

A visitation will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Evergreen Church of Christ, 2215 Evergreen Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral services will follow immediately at 12:00 PM, with burial at Avon Cemetery, 3995 Heart Avenue, Des Moines.
A reception will be hosted afterward at Evergreen Church of Christ, where family and friends are warmly invited to gather and celebrate Danny’s remarkable life.
