In 1968, Jimmy Page approached Reid to be the lead singer of his new post-Yardbirds project. Due to prior commitments with the Rolling Stones, Reid declined and famously recommended a then-unknown Robert Plant—a decision that helped shape Led Zeppelin’s legendary lineup.
Similarly, in 1969, after Rod Evans’ departure, Ritchie Blackmore invited Reid to front Deep Purple, but Reid once again declined. Though many would consider these missed opportunities, Reid stayed true to his own artistic path.
A Unique Career Built on Integrity
Terry Reid went on to forge a distinctive solo career, recording six studio albums, including the acclaimed River (1973). While he never reached massive commercial success, his music earned immense respect among peers and critics alike.
